Getting your furry family member to use the PetStep ramp doesnāt have to be ruff! With a little patience and a lot of treats, your pup will be climbing with confidence in no time!
1. Sniff Around & Get Comfy
Pito
First things firstālet your pup give the PetStep ramp a good sniff! Lay it flat on the ground and allow your dog to investigate the ramp on their own terms. If your dog is especially hesitant, we suggest leaving the ramp in a comfortable area your dog enjoys for a few days for them to become more familiar.
2. Treats and Tail Wags
Encourage your dog to walk across the ramp with plenty of treats or their favorite toy. No pressure, just paws-itive vibes! Use the treat or toy to guide your dog onto and across the length of the flat ramp. Dogs love rewards, so every time your pup steps on or across the ramp, shower them with treats, praise, and belly rubs. This helps them associate the ramp with good things (like yummy snacks!).

3. Slowly Raise the Woof
Pito
Once your pup is strutting their stuff on the flat ramp, itās time to raise the woofājust a little! Prop the top of the ramp up on a lower surface like a couch or a single step, and use treats to guide them up and down. Keep it fun and treat-filled!
4. One Paw at a Time
Some pups may be a little hesitantāno worries! Take it step by step, encouraging them to put one paw on, then two, and so on. Keep sessions short, sweet, and full of encouragement. If your pup takes his lead from a leash, this might be a good time to try training with a leash.

5. Practice Makes Paw-fect
Stanley
Now that your pup is getting the hang of it, you can try ramping it up a bit. Raise the height and incline of the ramp by using it on your car or higher furniture like a bed. Keep up the treats and happy talk so they feel like a top dog every time they climb!
6. Step by Step to Success
Every pup learns at their own pace, so donāt rush the process. Keep things lighthearted and fun. Before you know it, your doggo will be a ramp pro!
With these tips, your pup will be climbing up and down the PetStep ramp like a champ. If you run into any setbacks or have questions about the training process, please donāt hesitate to give us a woof at customer.service@petstep.com orĀ 877-272-1707. Happy tails and happy trails!
